Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Step 1:
Education
I strongly believe that education is the keystone to any successful therapy!
For patients who are not familiar with
the therapy or for those who want to learn more, I strongly recommend
that you make a Hormone Replacement Seminar the first step in your
approach. In addition, I would strongly recommend you reading the
first two books on the recommended readings page.
For those that are familiar with the
therapy and know that this is the direction they would like to go in
hormone replacement, it is reasonable to advance to Step 2 at this
point. Keeping in mind that continued education is critical to
successful outcomes...in other words, I still encourage you to attend a
seminar and read the books.
Step 2:
Salivary Hormone Testing
Salivary hormone testing
has proven to Moundsville Pharmacy to be one of the most powerful tools
in guiding patient decisions and physician and pharmacist
recommendations in hormone therapy. While symptom evaluation plays
a critical role in therapy recommendations, symptoms evaluation alone
can be mislead. Salivary hormone testing detects deficiencies and
imbalances to better guide hormone therapy and dosing, resulting in
successful outcomes for the patient.
Salivary hormone testing
does not require a prescription and test kits can be obtained at
Moundsville Pharmacy. Please call ahead if you are planning on
picking up a test kit! (304) 845-0390. These can also be
mailed to you from the pharmacy at your request.
Step
3: Individual Consults
You will receive your
results from ZRT Laboratories 3-4 weeks following testing.
Moundsville Pharmacy will also receive a copy of your results. I
will mail you a letter with a Medical History Form, letting you know we
have received your results and that Moundsville Pharmacy does offer
Individual Consults.
Please call to schedule
your hormone consult. We will discuss your lifestyle, history,
medications, symptoms and hormone levels. Our goal is to help you
put the puzzle pieces together...
At your request,
Moundsville Pharmacy can prepare a letter of recommendation for you or
your physician and fax it directly to their office.
Step
4: Initiating Therapy
If your physician elects to
approve your hormone replacement therapy. Moundsville Pharmacy can
prepare your individualized therapy and provide counseling on their
proper use.
Step
5: Follow-Up & Evaluation
Moundsville Pharmacy will
mail out evaluation letters after 30 days of therapy. Please fill
out and return these forms as soon as conveniently possible so that
additional recommendations can be made...
Moundsville Pharmacy will
continue to follow-up with you on a regular basis regarding symptoms and
potential recommendations to therapy.
